Born , Florine Valliant in Westmeath, Ontario
She studied Art and Art History at the University of Guelph, Ontario.. President of the Visual Arts Society on the Guelph campus from 1957- 1960. She has had courses in oil painting, weaving, ceramics, and silver jewelery making, some were credit courses.
In Ottawa, she attended evening art classes at the RA center 1962 - 1963 where she met her husband Donald Rutledge.
After moving to Bathurst, NB in 1966 she joined various oil painting groups over 30m years, including Art courses at Mount Allison University in 1985. Watercolor workshops with Robert Percival and Mr Silverberg began Florine's focus and love of Watercolor media . She has attended workshops in various Maritime areas including:Lunenberg, NS, Grand Manan, NB, Cape Briton,NS Murray Harbor PEI with artists Jack Reid and Barry Coombs.
Painting Holidays to England with a Jack Reid tour : included ,South East and South West E ngland-in 2001 and Cornish Coast from Bristol to St Ives in 2004.
Subjects of interest are: Nature studies, Landscapes, heritage homes, large florals, capturing the light and atmospheric moods in paintings.
